  • Fun with Flower Shop stamps and Doilies

Just a quick card share today – this was another card we made at our recent club night.  I was playing with a little bit of everything at my craft table to create this texture-rich card.

The one thing that is a little different about this card, but can be hard to tell when looking at it, is that we actually cut the white Tea Lace Doily in half and overlapped the pieces so that the total size of the doily is a little bit smaller than normal. That let us have the look of the doily without it taking over the entire width of the card.

The nice thing is that the Calypso Coral chevron ribbon covers up the seam where we glued together our halves of the doily so no one would ever know!

Add some Naturals Specialty Composition paper and some images from the Flower Shop stamp set and you have yourself a card!

  • Top 5 Favorites from the New 2013 Stampin’ Up! Catalog

2013 Annual CatalogWoo hoo!  Its new catalog time!

I was so excited when I got to check out the new catalog and was really happy that some of my favorite stamp sets from the Spring catalog are carrying over (Oh Hello, anyone?!)  But I was super excited about some of the new items as well.

So today I thought I’d share with you my Top 5 Favorites in the new catalog!

    1.  Core’dinations Cardstock in ALL the colors!  (pg 157)
When I finally started playing with the core’dinations cardstock from the holiday catalog and spring catalog, I discovered a love for distressing and tearing this paper.  The slightly lighter colored core and textured finish, gave a neat look to my projects.  It was also perfect for masculine cards and projects!
This is in my New Catalog Product Share because I need all the colors to play with. Smile

    2.  Rotary Blade for the Stampin’ Trimmer (pg 176)
I love my Stampin’ Trimmer and use it every time I’m crafting.  But I’ll admit I started getting a bit disappointed that I couldn’t easily cut multiple pieces of cardstock at the same time.  Much to my very happy surprise, Stampin’ Up! had me covered!  They brought out a rotary blade for the Stampin’ Trimmer so now I can use my trimmer to cut multiple pieces of paper, fabric, and so much more!

    3.  Flower Shop stamp set with coordinating Pansy Punch (pg 95)
I have a lot of stamps…. big surprise, right?  So, I’ve started getting a bit finickier about what stamp sets I want to get.  However, show me a great stamp set and a coordinating punch, and you have me hooked!  I love

    4.  Chevron Ribbon (pg 173)
Everywhere you look, you can see chevrons…. but isn’t this ribbon so cute?!  I especially love that it comes in 12 different colors.  So you can play with this cute accent ribbon for cards, scrapbooking, or even that cute sewing project you have going on!
And yes! You can try out all the colors in my New Ribbon Product Sampler!

    5. Magnetic Platform for the Big Shot (pg 184)
If you have used framelits with your Big Shot … you’ve probably had at least a time or two where you put your paper down, laid down the framelit, and then put the cutting plate on top – only to realize that something moved and now your perfectly set frame is totally off.  Well, yay for technology… or at least magnets!  You can totally use the post-it note trick for holding your framelit in place, why not let a magnet do the job for you and make it super easy? Smile

So those are my favorites…. so far.  Check out the new catalog and then visit me on Facebook or leave a comment here and let me know what you are most excited for!

  • Creative Gift idea from Stampin’ Up Wood Mount Boxes

Today I had the privilege of serving as guest blogger over on the Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration blog.  As I tried to figure out what to share, I realized that I had been planning on sharing some of the projects mom and I made for our recent craft fair and that would be a perfect thing to share over on SSI as well!  (Which, btw, if you haven’t checked out in a while, you should go see some of the fab samples that have been shared recently!)

Ok, so on to the projects!  I will start by saying, we have a bunch of these left because weather kept a lot of people away from our fair, so I’ll be selling them online here on the blog by tomorrow (UPDATE– I got all the different cases posted and available for purchase here).  So if you like this idea and want a sample or three at your house, let me know and you can reserve your favorites!

Alright, so you probably have seen the half-size clear mount cases for the smaller stamp sets and single stamps.  They look like this:

    half size woodmount cases

And it is easy to think of them as what you store your stamps in…. but did you know you can get spare cases in sets of 4?  Sure, it is great for a backup when your toddler steps uses your cases as steps (or is that just me?) but they are also fabulous for other uses!

For example, did you know they hold 5 ink refills perfectly?

half size woodmount case with ink

Neat, right?  But that isn’t what I’m really here to show you.  I wanted to show you some super cute gifts you can make with them!  Check out what my mom and I made for a craft fair last week:

We started by taking the empty box and cutting a piece of designer paper to slide in for the cover (so it is under the plastic sheet that goes around the outside of the box).  Then we created coordinating embellishments that we glued on top of the case front to allow for extra dimension and pop.
(and YES! that cupcake is the same cupcake punch that is on the weekly deals this week Smile)

Then on the inside, we created dividers by taking a piece of matching cardstock and scoring at the right widths to create holes for the goodies we wanted to include in the gift.

In some boxes we had 3 Hershey’s nuggets and a set of 3×3 cards and envelopes.  In others (like the one above) we had a decorated mini-post it note stack, 2 Hershey’s nuggets, a mini-hand sanitizer, and a chapstick!

Here are the outsides of a few more of our cases:

And here is an example of one of the boxes with cards inside (well, you can see the outside and the card)

So I hope this gave you some ideas and inspiration for the holiday season!  Check them out and start decorating!

And if you’d like to purchase one of my pre-made sets, check them all out here!

  • Tags 4 You Card Gift Set

Well, it is my turn again to be the guest blogger over on the Stylin’ Stampin’ Inkspiration blog and I’ll admit I was totally stumped on what I could post that would be a neat idea that was also more than just some random card.  But as I looked hopelessly around my craft room for absolutely any idea to work from, I saw my Tags 4 You stamp set…. and then it hit me!

I’ve always been a big fan of stamp sets that have coordinating punches.

I’m an even bigger fan when the stamps in the stamp set are generally the same size because that means you can trade images in and out on your cards for lots of variety.  So, I thought, why not do that for this?

    Here’s the general idea:

    • 1 card design
    • 1 stamp set
    • 1 coordinating punch
    • 4 different patterns of paper
    • ==== 1 Card Gift Set with 4 Unique Cards!

Once you have that first design, you can just keep whipping out card after card after card and still keep them all unique and with their own bit of pizzazz.  So, here is what I came up with for my set:Tags 4 You Card Gift Set

So, just in case you can’t tell from the picture above, the stamp set includes sentiments for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day.

    Tags 4 You Bundle

    Tags 4 You Bundle – #133294
(ps – get the bundle and save 15% on both the punch & stamp set!)

I got started by designing one layout using the Tags 4 You stamp set and the coordinating Bracket Label punch.  Ok, actually I started out by embossing each of the sentiments in different colors of cardstock and embossing powder…. then I started trying to figure out what the heck I was going to do with them. 🙂
But I liked the idea of the “peek-a-boo” cards where you have a patterned paper that peeks through punched holes in a cardstock layer.  So, that is what I started with…

Tags 4 You Valentine's Day Card

However, once I had my two bracket punches punched out, it looked like too much pattern paper showing through, so I knew I had to do something different.  So, I took one of the punched out bracket punches and cut it in half and overlapped each half on the right and left sides of the Vanilla cardstock layer… check out the picture below to see what I mean.

Using the Label Bracket Punch for a border

Then to break up the Very Vanilla plain layer, I grabbed my Basic Black marker, ruler, and my Grid Paper and drew a border.  Add my embossed layer and done!

Take that same design and stamp set and just switch out the colors and design paper and you have a fun set of 4 cards ready to go in no time!

    Halloween & Thanksgiving Cards

Tags 4 You Halloween & Thanksgiving Card

    Halloween Card Supplies:
Pumpkin Pie & Basic Black cardstock, Black Embossing Powder, Witches Brew designer paper

    Thanksgiving Card Supplies:

    Christmas & Valentine’s Day Cards

Gumball Green cardstock, Gold Embossing Powder, Season of Style designer paper

    Thanksgiving Card Supplies:

So, grab a stamp set and give it a try.  It is a great way to build up your stash of cards in no time!
