Elegant Congratulations Graduation Card

June 13, 2012 under Big Shot, Cards

Last week I held my Dads and Grads class and as I was trying to plan my cards I realized that I had no idea what colors people would want or need for their graduation card.  So, it quickly turned into an elegant black and white card that could be used for any school out there.

The part I love is that you can take off the diploma and add some pretty flourish or flower and you have a lovely wedding card or congratulations for just about any occasion!  But if you wanted to make this card, the diploma is simply cutting a square of cardstock and rolling it tightly.

My trick is to roll it all the way up and then unroll it slightly so that you can use a glue dot to hold the roll in place. Then you will have no problem tying the ribbon around the paper for a finishing touch! Then adhere to your card with glue dots.  Easy peasy!

Party Pinwheels and In Color Floral Fusion

June 6, 2012 under Big Shot, Cards

Last week was my new catalog preview party and after I put out my  catalogs, samples, and door prize, I decided I needed some more decorations.  So, I thought it would be fun to make some pinwheels with some of the great designer series paper I had lying around.  These are so easy to make – all you need is a square of paper, a brad, and a straw!

Do you like how I have them standing up too?  :)   See, us crafters are creative!  I grabbed shot glasses and unpopped popcorn – perfect!

Next I thought I’d show you the card we made as the make and take.  I wanted to show off the new In Colors and the amazingly awesome In Color stitched satin ribbon.  This card was inspired by a card by Pam Steckman, but I loved how the Floral Fusion Sizzlit die was perfect to show off the colors.  I just curved up the flower petals to help them pop off the page.

I used each of the In Colors and then put a rhinestone in the center for some fun bling.  Then we added the satin ribbon and then stamped with the new Midnight Muse ink the sentiment at the bottom of the card from the delightful dozen stamp set.  It’s a simple card but packs a punch!

Hopefully the girls enjoyed this card as much as I did!

Bordering on Romance Thank You

May 25, 2012 under Big Shot, Cards

The end of a catalog year always leaves me with stamps and accessories that I’m so happy are going to continue being available… and stamps that I’m sad are going away.  This card has both!

Bordering on Romance Thank You

I love that Bordering on Romance is carrying over but boy am I sad that Sincere Salutations is being retired. I swear, this was always my go-to set for versatile sentiments that could be dressed up or down. I’m sure I’ll find a new favorite down the road, but I’m not letting go of my set for a while I think. :)

So, I made this card to send to a customer to thank her for a recent order and it was a great excuse for me to try blending and coloring using markers.  I used 3 different pinks to color in my flowers – Pink Pirouette, Regal Rose, and Blushing Bride markers, and layered the colors and then did additional blending with my Blender Pen.  I started by coloring in the entire petal with the lightest pink, then did some shading with the middle tone pink (Blushing Bride), and then finished out with accent highlighting with the darkest pink (Regal Rose).  I think it turned out pretty well, huh?

The rest is pretty straightforward loving with my Big Shot (framelits and the lattice embossing folder).  Add some Paisley Petals designer paper and some basic pearls.

What stamp set will you miss the most when they retire in a week?

Great Masculine Birthday Card

May 21, 2012 under Big Shot, Cards

Earlier this month was my husband’s birthday and my mom, being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator also, sent him a handmade card that I loved.  In fact, I think I liked it even more than he did! :)

Anyway, I loved how striking it was and thought it was a great masculine card and so I wanted to share it with you.

The stamp and the paper are retired from last years catalog – Engraved Greetings stamp set and Love Letter designer paper.  But the cardstock, embossing folder, and punch are all current.

And the embossing, she heat embossed the stamp image with black embossing powder which made it look even cooler!  (I tried getting a close up to show you but its still hard to see).

This just goes to show that a card doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated to be a striking and fabulous card, huh?

Paisley Petals Anniversary Card

May 19, 2012 under Big Shot, Cards

This weekend my family and I headed out of town to Spokane, WA for my grandparent’s 65th anniversary.  I think it is so awesome to see two people who have shared a life for 65 years and have so many interesting stories from their adventures along the way!

So, this when I found this sentiment from the Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set in my scrap pile, I thought it was perfect for them: Paisley Petals Edgelit card

I used this card to play with a few other tools and techniques as well.  First was pulling out my new Edgelits that came out with the recent Occasions mini.   I love that Edgelits allow you to cut a decorative edge wherever you want on your paper.  So, I started out with cutting the edge of my Rich Razzleberry card base.  Then I cut a piece of Paisley Petals designer paper with the same edge design.  To give me this short card front:Edgelit card front open

TIP: If you are trying to make a layered piece like my card front, you may find that it is less stressful to cut a piece that is the right width and then after you cut your edge, measure how much of a border you want between your edges and then trim off your excess paper on the squared edge (like where the fold of the card is)

The other technique I wanted to play with was “fussy cutting”.  I grabbed a piece of of the Paisley Petals designer paper and started cutting out some of the flowers from the paper pattern.  Its funny, I think I like the flowers cut out better than in a full sheet of designer paper!  Smilepaisley petals close up

So, I hope you have a wonderful weekend; I know I will have a great time with my extended family as we head to the big carousel in Riverfront Park.  I’ll be back online later tonight though, so if you have order or project questions, I’ll be in touch then!
