Three types of Sparkle- One Card! Merriest Wishes Silver Sparkle Card

Welcome!  Today is another blog hop and I am hoping with my team… yay!  The Fun n’ Crafty stampers have pulled together some projects to share that is all about sparkle and shine.  So we are posting ideas for using those glimmer papers, glitter ribbons, foils, etc.  In fact, today I have 3 different sparkly products in 1 card so you can see how well they mix and match too!

I mean, lets be honest… we all have our favorite way to put glitz on our projects,  Some folks LOVE their glimmer papers, others LOVE their rhinestones, still others it is all about the Foil sheets.  Personally, I collect shiny things but always am so hesitant to use them up that I use just a little on this project or just a touch here.

EMBRACE THE SHINE!

I’m just going to say, trying mixing and matching and you’ll end up having a lot of fun!

So, this all started with the Merriest Wishes stamp set and coordinating framelits.  I had been playing around with different combinations of layering the stamp images.  I ended up with misc pieces and decided to turn this ornament into a less traditional combination for a Christmas card!  I used the 1 3/4″ and 1 1/4″ circle punches to cut out the Navy 25 circle and the Smoky Slate detailed circle… and they layered perfectly onto the ornament die cut from the Merry Tags framelit set.

But where is the glitz in that?  Well, let me tell you!

  1. Tie on some sparkle!  I added the Real Red and the Red Tinsel Baker’s twine from the Candy Cane Lane baker’s twine pack as a bow at the top of my ornament.  The red tinsel in the red/white twine is subtle, but cute.
  2. Grab some glimmer paper! Then I wanted to add some extra round shapes to balance the ornament, so I stamped and cut out a Real Red circle image and then went straight to the Silver Glimmer paper and cut out the same sized circle.  In both cases, I used the circle framelit from the Merry Tags die set.
  3. Stretch your sparkle with Glitter ribbon!  I had used a piece of the Fancy Frost embossed designer paper as my big white strip (I just loved the subtle embossing), but thought one more bit of shine was in order, so just grab some of the great glitter ribbons (like this 3/8″ glitter ribbon combo pack in the Holiday Catalog) and wrap it around your designer paper piece before gluing it to the card front.

So, it was a fun way to play around and mix and match my sparkle.  I would say, if you are going to try to mix them up, pick one as your main focus… in this case, it was the Glitter Ribbon that was the big in-your-face shine.  And then use the other pieces more as accent pieces.  So a small touch of glimmer paper, and a bit of the baker’s twine… or maybe a couple rhinestones or sequins.  Play with it and see what you get!

Sweet Christmas Card with Suite Seasons for the Fun n’ Crafty Blog Hop!

Today is a fun post for me because not only am I going to share the swap card that I created for OnStage Local in Vancouver, BC last weekend – but it is also the Fun n’ Crafty Blog Hop!  That is right!  Some of the stampers from my group have gotten the band back together again and we are showcasing some holiday project ideas including many using the stamp sets that are in the 25% off sale this month!  So, make sure to check them all out.

Keeping it Simple with the Suite Season stamp set

So, for OnStage this year, I made the poor choice of not working on my display board project particularly early, which meant as we were getting into the last week before the event, I still needed to finish up display board projects AND create a card to bring as a swap card.  Thankfully, the Suite Season stamp set and the Candy Cane Lane designer paper made it easy for me to pull together a cute card with time to spare!

Now, I’ve had some people ask where the house came from, and if you missed it, it was cut straight from the Candy Cane Lane designer paper!  And before you start thinking “oh man!  That is a pain to cut”, let me tell you, it goes WAY faster than you might think!  I thought that was going to be the thing that was going to be the biggest pain for me with this card, but nope!  Turns out, trying to pick up and glue the little hearts were a more tedious challenge than cutting. Smile  I cut for 20 cards out of a sheet of the designer paper.

The houses were a great balance for the size of the sentiment from the Suite Season stamp set.  I wanted the sentiment to hold it’s own and then just decorate up the other side of the card as an accent to the saying.

And speaking of accents, if you do cut these houses out – make sure to grab your Clear Wink of Stella!  I painted it onto the snow topped portions of the house and it was super cute!

Then it was as simple as layering over the fabulous stitched edge Real Red ribbon and one of the White Doilies (cut in half) to finish out the card.  Oh and before I forget the other touch… that little red heart at the bottom of the sentiment.  Can you guess where I got that from? huh? huh?  Smile

It is from the Hearts Confetti Border punch!  How fun is that?!  I punched out some hearts from scrap paper and then just glued them down over the stamped heart in the sentiment.  That little extra touch of red on the right side just finishes it off, don’t you think?

Now, like I said, this stamp set is one of the 9 sets that are available for 25% off in the month of November.  Stampin’ Up picked stamp sets that would coordinate with the NEW Stitched Edge Framelits and makes it easy to create cute projects!  They are featured in this blog hop as well as in the Premium Tutorial Pack for November!  See what stamp sets made the list:

ICS Fall Fun Blog Hop

It is fully October, if you couldn’t tell from all the Pumpkin Spice EVERYTHING that is in the stores and restaurants!  And that means that we are ready to head out of summer and jump into fall.  To help get you in the spirit and thinking of changing leaves, pumpkins, and all things warm and cozy… the gals at the Inspire, Create, Share blog hop group have put together another fun hop to share with you lots of Fall themed projects!

I wanted to break out some of the great designer paper I had ordered from the Holiday catalog and break out those fall color combinations.  And while I was thinking about what to create, I suddenly remembered this oldie but goodie stamp set – Wonderous Wreath!  Check it out:

Usually you see the wreath with Christmas or winter colors, but there is no reason why it can’t be fall instead!  I just grabbed my Petals & Paisleys designer paper and flipped it over to the back to look at the label where the professionals at Stampin’ Up have already come up with a great color combination.  I just use it as my crib sheet! Smile  Try this combo on for size:

TAMS Color Builder (1)

So, I just used those colors to create my wreath!  The coordinating wreath and bow dies made it a cinch to cut out and then I just needed to start layering it onto my card.

Since I had used the colors from the Petals and Paisley designer paper, it was a no brainer to pick my favorite patterns to layer on the left of the card.  Then I wanted to add just a touch of texture so I cut a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock and embossed it with the Woodgrain embossing folder for the perfect backdrop for the wreath itself (don’t forget to sponge the edge of the embossed paper with Soft Suede ink to really distress it!)

Then I just needed a sentiment and I’m so super in love with this one from the Suite Seasons stamp set in the Holiday Catalog.  You’ve seen me use this sentiment on Very Vanilla cardstock and color in the decorative piece.  But since I didn’t want that accent to take away from the wreath, I left it simple and subtle with Soft Suede ink.

This card showcases a fun way to use some of your favorite patterns from the designer series paper.  Right now many of the papers are buy 3 get 1 free!  Woo hoo!  I totally spaced and forgot this was a specialty paper, so it isn’t in this sale, but change this up for the Presents and Pinecones designer paper that IS on sale, and make the wreath holiday and you are good to go!

I hope you have enjoyed this Fall inspiration idea!  Keep on hopping and check out what Candy has in store for you, for even more fun fall ideas.

Thanks for hopping!

Bring on the Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month & the Ultimate Pink Blog Hop!

ultimate-pink-blog-hop-badge

Welcome to the first ever Ultimate Pink Blog Hop – a collection of ideas from Stampin’ UP! demonstrators all over the globe featuring shades of pink in honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Having had a grandmother who had to battle breast cancer, this is a cause that I know can affect anyone at anytime, and I loved the chance to participate in this fun way to play with all things PINK while raising awareness for this.

I started by grabbing all my pink papers and had planned a “Thinking of You” card, but as things started coming together, it took a little bit of a turn and ended up here… 🙂

baby-girl-card-with-cookie-cutter-christmasI had a lot of fun mixing all my pink papers with some of the new items in the Stampin’ Up Holiday catalog to create an anything but Holiday card!

Not just “Holiday” items:

  • Use the bear in the Cookie-Cutter Christmas stamp set to make an adorable bear for a new baby!  Just pick your color to suit the gender or parents…
  • Fancy Frost Designer paper has many great anytime designs and is a quick way to add texture without having to pull out an embossing folder and BigShot.
  • Matching Glitz comes from the Fancy Frost Sequins – I shared a Frosted Medallions card recently using them for New Years or bust them out for Christmas, but the sequins are perfect for a baby too.

baby-girl-card-with-cookie-cutter-christmas-side-view I mixed and matched my colors for this too.  Good thing there are lots of pinks to choose from in Stampin’ Up’s color palette and they all go great together!  I had

  • Melon Mambo for the card base,
  • Pink Pirouette and Blushing Bride cardstock for the stripes,
  • and Blushing Bride glimmer paper for just that extra sparkle.  Gotta love sparkle!

baby-girl-card-with-cookie-cutter-christmas-close-up Now if you missed this bear (it’s easy to do!), she comes from the Cookie-Cutter Christmas stamp set.  You stamp the bear body first and then add in the ears (thankfully both ears are together on ONE photopolymer stamp so you don’t have to worry about spacing and you can see what you are doing!) .  Finally, add in the fun face and you are good to go.

If you want, stamp the bow and then punch it out with the coordinating Cookie-Cutter punch!  (And yes-siree, they are offered together in a discounted bundle!)

PS – I have all the project dimensions below if you want to make this for yourself.  🙂

Thank you so much for checking out my PINK idea and don’t miss out on even more great ideas on this blog hop – To continue to be inspired whether you’ve come from the person previous to me or after me (#4 – Jennifer Blomquist) on the list below, all participants are listed to help you as you journey among us being filled with pink inspiration.

Happy hopping!

12417846_10153838682348048_338791290049439201_n

I’m one of 14 stops on the hop, so if you are joining me from Darla’s blog, welcome!  I have a fun project to share today… a Valentine’s Treat Pouch I made as a bonus project for my Stamp Club.  It is fun to make and quicker than you might think!

Love Blossoms Envelope Punch Board Valentine Treat Bag

Jennifer’s Project Tips:

  • It all starts with an adorable owl – The very first thing I designed for this project was the Owl.  If you haven’t used the Owl Builder punch before, you are missing out on so many cute projects!  From owls, to penguins, to reindeer, it is a super versatile punch!
But even when you are making a simple owl, don’t hesitate to dress her up!  I used the small flower flourish from the Bloomin’ Love stamp set and stamped it onto a scrap of Pink Pirouette cardstock before punching out the tummy for my owl.  It is like she is wearing a pretty dress!  Then punch out two of the hearts from the same punch and glue them together over her ear for instant bow.  BAM!  Cute or Super Cute??Valentine's Day Owl Builder Punch
  • Create a custom treat holder with the Envelope Punch Board – I was trying to decide what to put my owl on, when it hit me!  I could use the envelope punch board along with the cute Love Blossoms paper stack to quickly make the treat holders.
    –  Start with a 6×6 piece of patterned paper (good thing this paper pack comes as a 6×6 pack!)
    –  Use the envelope punch board to create an envelope. Start at the 2 5/8″ score line and score and punch as normal.on all sides (video tutorial for the punch board).
    –  fold in 3 of the sides but do NOT fold and press the 4th side.
    –  decorate to your heart’s content!
  • Have fun with layers!  I next created the sentiment – the banner stamp and the sentiment are both from the same Bloomin’ Love stamp set, but did you know? The banner has a matching framelit over in the Large Numbers framelit set!  Or trim by hand.  Either way works.  I stamped my banner first and THEN added my sentiment.  But then don’t stop there, add more layers!  Try wrapping the treat bag with the Watermelon Wonder satin ribbon and then layering your sentiment and the owl.
    – Want extra credit?  Keep it going!  Add a gold metallic doily to the front of the bag and adhere a 2 1/2” Crumb Cake cardstock circle for a shiny backdrop.Valentine's Day treat bag layers
  • But what adhesive to use for what?  I used a few different adhesives for this project so I thought you might like a quick guide for it:
    –  Holding together your treat bag = Fast Fuse, you want something stronger than your average tape to make sure your treat doesn’t come apart!
    –  Layering your Owl = 2-way glue pen, with all these small pieces you are trying to stick together, the glue pen is easy to handle and not messy with your little pieces
    –  Attaching your Owl = I used one Stampin’ Dimensional to keep her in place
    –  Everything else = viewers choice!  Though my preference is for SNAIL or Fast Fuse, basically some kind of tape runner

So I hope you enjoyed my project and found some new ideas for inspiration!  Click the next button below to see what Claudia has created for the blog hop!  The next in your 14 stop hop full of love!

Bling Up your Card with Glitter Ribbon–A Birthday & Thank You card (BLOG HOP)

I’m so excited to be able to join a fun blog hop today for the first time!  Welcome to the Grand Vacation Achievers Blog Hop for December. This is a monthly blog hop with many fabulous and talented Stampin’ Up demonstrators who work and play hard with their business. Smile  This month our theme is Bring on the Bling. You know I love me some sparkle and shine but I thought I’d be a bit different from my regular rhinestones (or even glimmer paper) and share some ideas using the fabulous – but retiring – Gold Glitter Ribbon!

Holiday Catalog Ribbon – Perfect for Any Occasion!

I wanted to share a couple ideas that used some of the Holiday Catalog items that are retiring in a few days that can give some bling and shine any time of year.  Like this Birthday Card featuring the Winter Wonderland Specialty designer paper & the Gold Glitter Ribbon.

Tips for making this card:

  • Look for “anytime” patterns in your “Holiday” designer paper packs!  I had the Winter Wonderland designer paper in my stash and because it was in the Holiday Catalog in a Christmas section, all I could see in it at first were the snowflakes, acorns, and trees.  But when I started really trying to figure out how I could use the paper, I realized there were lots of neutral patterns that were good anytime.  Like this crackled glass pattern.  Plus, an extra bonus was that it had little shiny gold dots speckled throughout the paper so you got some subtle bling going on.  Who said gold is only for the holidays?
PS – this paper pack is retiring on Jan 4th but yay! it is on sale as part of the Year-end Sale!
  • Layer your ribbon for cool new looks – The next thing was that I liked the idea of the Jute ribbon… but it was too wide and plain as it was.  So why not spiff it up and layer your favorite ribbon over it.  Adds a whole new dimension don’t you think?  I thought it helped balance the bright and sparkly gold in the Gold Glitter ribbon.  You can use SNAIL tape runner to adhere the ribbon together, but I might suggest a stronger adhesive like the Tear Tape to make sure that your gold ribbon really gets a good grip on the slightly fuzzy Jute Ribbon below.
  • Perfectly cut out banners from the Amazing Birthday stamp set with the bundled Banner Framelits – Did you know that the Banner framelits are a perfect match for the Amazing Birthday stamp set I used?  The stamp images fit great inside the different banner shapes for easy cutting.  Plus, you can get them together in a bundle and even save 15% off both.  How sweet is that?

image

So now moving on from Birthdays, another type of card that I need all the time is a Thank You card.  I was trying to use up some scraps on my desk and stumbled onto this design.  I loved the touch of gold at the bottom of the card.

Tips for making this card:

  • Get fun effects by mixing your embossing folders and ink!  These cool polka dots are easy to do!  Just grab the Large Polka Dot embossing folder and the use a sponge dauber to sponge ink directly INSIDE the indented side of the embossing folder.  THEN put your paper in the folder and run it through your Big Shot.  As the paper is smashed into the impressions in the folder, they will also be pressed uniformly into the ink creating cool distressed looking dots of color on your paper!
  • Layered punches really help them stand out – I had fun with my cutting and punches here.  Start by stamping the leaves from the Kinda Eclectic stamp set and then cut those out (yes, it has to be by hand… sorry Smile) and then grab your punches!  I used my Petite Petals punch to punch out the Blackberry Bliss flower.  Then stamped onto white cardstock, the little flower from the Something to Say stamp set and punched it out using the Itty Bitty Accent punch pack.  They all layer together for a fun, unexpected flower!
  • Mix your metallics – Finally, just because I had used gold by adding the touch of the Gold Glitter ribobn at the bottom of the card… don’t you think it just grounds the card nicely?  I decided to add a hint of gold into the rest of the card by adding two gold sequins from the Gold Sequin trim next to my flower.  Just enough to balance the gold ribbon, but not too much that we are worried about getting gaudy or feeling like King Midas was having a field day with the card!  I stuck with gold but you can also get some fun looks by mixing gold and other metallic colors too.  So have fun and play around.

So I hope you’ve enjoyed these two ideas for adding some bling to your projects that you can not only use anytime of year… but you can also use the Gold Glitter Ribbon to add some bling to GUY cards too!  I’d love to hear what you think!

But keep the great ideas going by checking out the other ideas and inspiration you don’t want to miss. Remember that currently you are at my blog – JENNIFER BLOMQUIST, so check the blog hop line up list to see who is next in the list. Smile

Sprinkles of Life Cupcake Birthday for the Fun n’ Crafty Blog Hop – (Wednesday Walkthrough Video Tutorial)

If you missed it yesterday, the new 2015 Stampin’ Up annual catalog launched yesterday and so today we are in full swing of everything ramped up and ready to go with all the changes that come with the new catalog.  If you haven’t seen yours yet, here is the link to the new catalog and to my new catalog walkthrough video that went up on my YouTube channel yesterday.

See the new catalog PDF  |  Check out my new catalog walkthrough on YouTube!

But not only is the new catalog here but it is once again time for another Fun n’ Crafty Stampers Blog Hop!  We were supposed to be mixing products from the new catalog with items from the prior catalog… you know, the good ol’ mixing of old and new.  And I can tell you, the new products do that great, especially the new In Colors!   So, while I got a little excited playing with my new stuff, I did at least mix in some old colors and my 2-1/2” circle punch to do a bit of old and new.  So it counts, right? Smile

Triple Banner Punch + Cherry on Top paper + Sprinkles of Life stamp set = a Bright Birthday Card!

As I was working on this card, I got inspired to put together a whole Card Class by Mail around this super duper awesome stamp set – so this is card 1 from my new Sprinkles of Life card class by mail!

Tips for making this card:

  • The new “Banner Triple Punch” or as I call it, the Triple Banner punch, makes these banners come together super easy.  Sure, it doesn’t take that long to trim paper ends by hand with your scissors, but after using this, I can tell how great it is to not have to worry about being a little off… or wanting to go quick because I want to have 2 or 3 banner ends per card!
  • Use the color palatte of your designer paper to get you started!  In this case, I pulled the Crushed Curry ink, Watermelon Wonder, and Bermuda Bay from the Cherry on Top designer paper pack.  It really pulls everything together!
  • The Sprinkles of Life stamp set gives you a TON of options for your projects

    image

    – especially when you add in the Tree Builder punch.  Because then suddenly you get so much dimension for your clouds, trees, and cupcakes!image
  • Sponge the edges of your banners to help them POP and keep from blending into one another.  It use Crushed Curry as a bright alternative to my typical browns.
  • Get more control and a better sponged edge when you use a Sponge Dauber for your inking as opposed to direct to inkpad or the yellow sponges.
  • Don’t be afraid to stamp onto non-traditional colors!  I don’t think of Watermelon Wonder and Bermuda Bay as real-life cupcake colors, but they still totally work on a card!
  • Use the flower punch from the Tree Builder punch to get the little accent flower and then bling it up with the smallest sized rhinestone.
  • Add the perfect finishing touch with the new Dotted Lace Trim in all the new In Colors (though I have to say the Watermelon color in the lace is my FAV!)

Watch my Wednesday Walkthrough video for even more tips and to see just how easy it is to pull this card together! And then make sure to hop along to all the other great project ideas on our Hop!
